I was watching Mickey Mouse and Friends with my girl the other day. As we were watching she started asking me questions.
Sarah : Mummy, what's that? (Pointing at Mickey Mouse)
Me : That's a mouse.
Sarah : Ooh.
Sarah : Mummy, what's that? (Pointing at Donald Duck)
Me : That's a duck. Quack quack.
Sarah : Ooh.
Sarah : What's that mummy? (Pointing at Pluto)
Me : That's a dog. Woof woof.
Sarah : (Giggles) Ooh. Woof woof.
Sarah : Mummy, what's that? (Pointing at Goofy)
Me : Err...that's..that's a dog.
Sarah : Dog? No..that dog. (Pointing at Pluto again) Dog woof woof mummy.
Me : I know, but that's also a dog. A big dog.
Sarah : This one no woof woof mummy. (Pointing at goofy)
Me : *sigh* Entahlah Sarah. I don't know what that is. Wait for daddy okay? We'll ask daddy.
I haven't a clue on how to explain to a 3 year old why one dog can talk and the other can't. Got any ideas?

heheheh...aku pun tak pernah terpikir macam tu. macam nie, kor boleh email kat Disney kenapa perkara sedemikian jadi."ada anjing boleh bercakap, dan ada anjing yang tak leh cakap"
hahahaa....pening kan? well it's just cartoon,and in cartoon world it's all imagination it's not real. in real life all animal can't talk.
actually, i've had that same question for a while now. but more importantly, betul ke goofy is a dog? or is he something else? hehehe..

halogamora, u know it's a cartoon, I know its a cartoon but try explaining that to a 3 year old. =)
nana, it's definitely a dog. I checked. but nothing on why goofy can talk & pluto cannot. another mystery awaiting to be solved. lol.

jangan nnt dia suruh U cari anjing educated kat pet shop, sudah. Dia nak tgk anjing yang bercakap..hehehe
Tell her that Goofy is an adult dog and that Pluto is still a 'baby'....wonder if that's gonna work...
They don't let uncle Mike (me) explain things to kids under 16 anymore because I would probably tend to tell them, in this case, that since everyone knows dogs can't talk, so Goofy was obviously a cross-bred, (thus the Goofy attribute), mutant love child resulting from Shirley Temple (i.e. Disney's 1939 "Autograph HOUND") doing it with one of the uncredited extras in "Oliver & Company" (or was it Lady and The Tramp?)... for a real treat you should hear me read out loud Peter Rabbit (CottonTAIL and Carrots... allegories? hmmm?), Watership Down, or Alice in Wonderland some time... Which is why they now conveniently keep Uncle Mike away from pre-teens, and my advice should clearly be taken with a grain of salt.
